WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

WAKIL XL is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and wildlife’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

Although WAKIL XL is of moderate toxicity to mammals and birds, it can be used safely according
to the label instructions. Risk management is essential, as ‘TREATED SEED IS HARMFUL TO GAME
AND WILDLIFE. Bury or remove spillages.’ Care must be taken to keep treated seed secure from people, domestic stock/pets and wildlife at all times during storage and use to avoid accidental consumption. Treated seed must not be used for food or feed.

Direct drilling of seed considerably reduces the risk to birds but care must be taken to ensure that seed is not left on the surface. Visible seed should be buried or removed.

BEES
No risk management is necessary as risk of exposure to bees from seed treatment use is low.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. WAKIL XL poses a low risk to the range of non-target insects and arthropods commonly found in treated fields. No risk management is necessary.

AQUATIC LIFE
WAKIL XL is classified as ‘HARMFUL TO AQUATIC ORGANISMS’.

WAKIL XL is highly toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates, and extremely toxic to algae, ’DO NOT CONTAMINATE SURFACE WATERS OR DITCHES with the chemical or used container’.

No risk management is necessary. When used according to label instructions, the risk to aquatic life is low.

Not categorised under the LERAP scheme.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

WAKIL XL has low to moderate persistence in soil. Fludioxonil is strongly bound to the soil and is not considered to be mobile, metalaxyl-M can range from low for clay soils to high for sandy soils, and cymoxanil is considered to be moderately mobile. In practice, if WAKIL XL is used as according to the label instructions, the risk to groundwater contamination is low.

EARTHWORMS

No risk management is necessary. WAKIL XL is of moderate toxicity to earthworms. In practice the risk to earthworms is low.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

No risk management is necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
WAKIL XL is applied as a seed treatment and so the impact on non-target plants is expected to be minimal.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY
Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and
field sources.
