WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

TOPIK is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’.
No risk management is necessary to protect mammals and birds. TOPIK is of low toxicity to mammals and birds. It will therefore pose a low risk to grazing mammals e.g. rabbits, hares and deer that may consume recently treated cereal shoots or other mammals living in and around treated fields. The risk to mammals such as shrews consuming earthworms in fields treated with TOPIK is low.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

The risk to geese and other birds feeding on recently treated weeds will be low. There will also be a low risk of adverse effects on birds nesting in or around treated fields or feeding on earthworms or insects in treated areas.

BEES
No risk management is necessary. TOPIK poses a low risk to honey bees and there is no requirement to avoid application of the product when bees may be foraging on flowering weeds in and around treated areas.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management necessary. TOPIK poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields, including ground and rove beetles and aphid predators such as ladybirds

AQUATIC LIFE
TOPIK is classified as ‘Very Toxic to Aquatic Organisms’.

TOPIK is highly toxic to fish and aquatic plants. However, in practice the risk to aquatic life is low if used as recommended. Care should be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the used container. No risk management necessary.

Not categorised under the LERAP scheme.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

TOPIK is rapidly degraded in soil. It has moderate persistence and is highly mobile in some situations. However, there is a low risk of groundwater contamination if the product is used according to label conditions

EARTHWORMS

TOPIK is of low toxicity to earthworms and so will pose a low risk to earthworm populations in and around treated fields. No risk management necessary.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

TOPIK has no significant effect on soil microbial populations or to the processes of respiration and degradation. No risk management necessary

NON-TARGET PLANTS
No effects on non-target plants are expected when TOPIK is used as directed. As TOPIK is used to control grass weeds, care should always be taken to minimise drift when applying close to field boundaries.
