Tactic is a conventional oilseed rape variety from Syngenta that has delivered a very high gross output in HGCA Recommended List (RL) trials.
Status: UK National Listed
Very high gross output
• High oil content
• Medium/early maturity
• Good autumn vigour and winter hardiness
• Medium/short plant height with a stiff stem
Tactic has been registered with a glucosinolate content below 18 micromoles per g seed and as such is fully accepted by the European crushers association (FEDIOL) as a ‘00’ variety.
Very high Gross output
Tactic is a conventional oilseed rape variety from Syngenta that has delivered a very high gross output in UK National List (NL) trials. Its gross output over 2 years in NL trials was 9% higher than Castille, offering a clear opportunity for many growers to capture even more value from high oilseed rape prices.
Exceptional oil content
Tactic’s gross output is a result of a very high seed yield combined with one of the
highest oil contents available, enabling growers to capitalise on the higher oil premiums that come with higher crushing prices.
Phoma resistance
Disease resistance is high up the list of priorities for many growers when selecting WOSR varieties. Tactic has a Phoma stem canker rating of 6.2*, providing a strong platform for a subsequent disease control programme.
*UK National List trials, mean of 2009-2010.
Medium / early maturity
Tactic combines high seed yield and oil content with a maturity score that is earlier than DK-Cabernet and Sesame. Allowing growers with a larger acreage to plan their crops to reach optimum maturity in sequence, thereby spreading the workload during the busy harvest period without compromising on quality.
Excellent autumn vigour and winter hardiness
Tactic’s ability to get away quickly and establish in less than ideal conditions has been confirmed at other sites (see tables below).

"This season has been a real test of winter hardiness. In North Yorkshire we had 15 nights of temperatures from -15oC to -21oC without snow cover.
Some early-sown varieties struggled with 80-90% leaf death. Tactic came out of the winter period really well, only experiencing 5-10% leaf death."
