WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

SWITCH is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

No risk management is necessary to protect wild mammals and birds. SWITCH is of low toxicity to both mammals and birds. The risk to wild mammals and birds feeding on treated areas is low due to the limited amount of residues likely to be consumed.

BEES
No risk management is necessary. SWITCH is of low risk to honey bees.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. SWITCH poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields.

AQUATIC LIFE
SWITCH is ‘VERY TOXIC TO AQUATIC ORGANISMS’. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or the used container.

Risk management essential. SWITCH is highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates and fish, and moderately toxic to algae. Although cyprodinil partitions into the sediment of aquatic systems, where it is persistent, the toxicity to sediment dwelling organisms is low. SWITCH may be used safely providing care is taken to prevent spray drift reaching surface waters. The following risk management practices must be carried out: ‘DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody, unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 1m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing water body. Aim spray away from water’.

‘DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from broadcast air assisted sprayers to fall within 20 m# or 10 m## of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody, unless a Local Environment Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 5 m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. Aim spray away from water.
# for applications to apple, crab apple, pear and quince
## for applications to blackberry, raspberry, blueberry, bilberry, cranberry, redcurrant, whitecurrant, blackcurrant, gooseberry, ornamental plant production and forest nursery’

LERAP Category B. Buffer zone may be reduced (see LERAP Guidelines).

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

Cyprodinil is of relatively short persistence in soil under field conditions and has limited mobility. Fludioxonil is strongly bound to the soil and is not considered to be mobile. Use of SWITCH according to the label instruction presents a low risk to groundwater.

EARTHWORMS

SWITCH is of moderate toxicity to earthworms. No risk management is necessary as the risk to earthworms is low.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

No risk management necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
No effects on non-target plant species are expected when SWITCH is used as recommended.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
