DIRECTIONS FOR USE
IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be carefully read in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

RESTRICTIONS
Do not use SKIRMISH on soils lighter than coarse sandy loam, on very stony soils or on soils with greater than 10% organic matter.
SKIRMISH may be used on all varieties of spring sown vining and combining peas and spring field beans. In the case of Vedette and Printana some crop damage may be caused from which recovery may not be complete.
Do not use SKIRMISH on forage peas.
Do not use SKIRMISH on very cloddy soils.
Do not use SKIRMISH on soils where surface water is likely to accumulate.
Do not make post-emergence applications of SKIRMISH to crops severely checked by waterlogging, pest attack, disease, frost, or when frost is imminent.
In peas, application may be pre crop emergence or post crop emergence, before the second node stage. In spring field beans this must be before crop emergence.

WEEDS CONTROLLED
SKIRMISH is both foliar and soil acting. It is absorbed by the cotyledons of emerged weeds and by the roots of weed seedlings emerging after spraying. SKIRMISH is slow acting. Signs of control may not be seen for 7–10 days or even longer, after spraying. Ideally the soil surface should be damp and have a fine firm tilth at the time of spraying and rain in the period after spraying will normally improve weed control. Excessive rainfall, very dry conditions or unusually low soil temperatures following application of SKIRMISH may lead to unsatisfactory weed control. SKIRMISH will give residual control of germinating weeds on mineral soils for up to 8 weeks. SKIRMISH should not be used on very cloddy or very stony soil.

CROP SPECIFIC INFORMATION
SKIRMISH is a liquid formulation containing 420 g terbuthylazine and 75 g isoxaben per litre, used for contact and residual control of annual broad-leaved weeds in vining and combining peas and spring field beans.

Crops
SKIRMISH can be used on all varieties of spring sown vining and combining peas and spring field beans. In the case of pea varieties Vedette or Printana some crop damage may be caused from which recovery may not be complete. Prepare a good tilth before drilling. The seed must be covered with at least 25mm of settled soil. No further cultivation should be carried out after applying SKIRMISH.

If heavy rain falls after an application of SKIRMISH, particularly on light soils, some crop damage may occur.

Timing
Combining and vining peas
SKIRMISH may be applied pre-emergence or post-emergence but before second node stage. For applications between emergence and second node stage (102) a crystal violet test for cuticular wax should be undertaken prior to application as crop damage may occur if cuticular wax is deficient. Post-emergence applications can be made up to the weed size indicated in the section under weed control.

Spring field beans
SKIRMISH may be applied only as a pre-emergence application.

Rates of use
1.0 litre SKIRMISH per hectare. Apply SKIRMISH in a minimum of 200 litres of water per hectare.

Spray Nozzle
A medium quality spray, as defined by British Crop Protection Council, is preferred for the application of SKIRMISH.

Choice of nozzle is determined by consulting manufacturers’ literature and selecting a nozzle that produces a spray of the required quality at an output consistent with nozzle spacing on the boom, chosen forward speed, required spray volume and operating in the range of 2–3 bar for a medium quality spray.

FOLLOWING CROPS
Before sowing or planting any following crop, the soil should be ploughed to a depth of 20 cm. Succeeding crops may be sown or planted 12 weeks or more after spraying, but if a prolonged drought has occurred, this period should be extended to 14 weeks.

MIXING AND SPRAYING
Make sure the sprayer is set to give an even application at the correct volume.

Fill the sprayer with half the required volume of water. Invert and shake the bottle well and add the required amount of SKIRMISH through the filter basket. Add the rest of the water and agitate the mixture thoroughly. Always agitate immediately before use and continue agitation during spraying. Thoroughly wash all spraying and measuring equipment with water and a wetting agent immediately after use.

Always replace the cap on partly filled packs immediately after measuring out.

PROTECT FROM FROST
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE
STORE IN A COOL, DRY PLACE

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
(a) Operator protection
Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following personal protective equipment:
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES when handling the concentrate
However engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection
WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after work.

(b) Environmental protection
DO NOT CONTAMINATE SURFACE WATERS OR DITCHES with chemical or used container.

(c) Storage and disposal
RINSE CONTAINER THOROUGHLY by using an integrated pressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of safely.
KEEP IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER, tightly closed, in a safe place.

THE (COSHH) CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH REGULATIONS MAY APPLY TO THE USE OF THIS PRODUCT AT WORK
