WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

REGLONE is classified as ‘Harmful to livestock’ and risk management is essential. ‘Keep all livestock out of treated areas for at least 24 hours after treatment.’’

‘Do not use straw or haulm from treated crops as animal feed or bedding for at least four days after last application’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

Diquat is moderately toxic to mammals and birds if directly consumed, however, the risk to small mammals such as shrews, rabbits and water voles consuming earthworms or vegetation treated with REGLONE is low. No risk management is necessary to protect these species provided that REGLONE is used according to the labelled recommendations.

BEES
No risk management is necessary as REGLONE is of low risk to honey bees.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management necessary. REGLONE poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields e.g. ground beetles, spiders, aphids and aphid parasitoids.

AQUATIC LIFE
REGLONE is ‘Very Toxic to Aquatic Organisms‘. REGLONE is moderately toxic to fish, and aquatic invertebrates, and highly toxic to algae. However, if used according to the label recommendations there will be insufficient contamination of water to present a risk to aquatic life. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or used container.

Not categorised under the LERAP scheme.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
MAMMALS AND BIRDS

REGLONE is very persistent in soil and degrades very slowly. Diquat is adsorbed to the soil and is not considered to be mobile. As diquat is not mobile in soil, if REGLONE is used according to label recommendations, the risk to groundwater contamination is low.

EARTHWORMS

No risk management necessary. REGLONE is of moderate toxicity to earthworms, however, the risk to earthworms is low.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

No risk management necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low

NON-TARGET PLANTS
No effects on non-target plants are expected when REGLONE is used as directed. As REGLONE is used as a contact herbicide, care should always be taken to minimise drift when applying close to field boundaries

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and
field sources.
