Maximum no. of applications: Crop dependant
WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE
PLENUM WG is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’.
MAMMALS AND BIRDS
No risk management necessary to protect wild mammals and birds. Pymetrozine, the active ingredient in PLENUM WG is of low toxicity to mammalian and bird species. The risk to wild mammals and birds grazing on treated areas is low, as is the risk due to exposure from other routes, e.g. consumption of earthworms or other invertebrates such as insects.
BEES
PLENUM WG is classified as ‘Dangerous to bees’.
Risk management essential. “Do not apply to crops in flower or to those in which bees are actively foraging. Do not apply when flowering weeds are present.”
NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management necessary. PLENUM WG poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields, e.g. ground beetles, ladybirds, spiders and aphid parasitoids.
AQUATIC LIFE
No risk management necessary. Although pymetrozine has moderate toxicity to aquatic life, it is not considered harmful to fish or other aquatic life when used as directed. Care should always be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated through spillage or with the used container.
PLENUM WG is not categorised under the LERAP scheme.
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER
PLENUM WG has low to moderate persistence in soil. Pymetrozine is adsorbed to soil and therefore has low mobility. There is a low risk of groundwater contamination if PLENUM WG is used according to label recommendations.
EARTHWORMS
No risk management necessary. PLENUM WG is of moderate toxicity to earthworms. In practice, due to the low mobility of pymetrozine in soil, the risk to earthworms is low.
SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
No risk management necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low.
NON-TARGET PLANTS
Pymetrozine has negligible activity on plants. Therefore, PLENUM WG should have no adverse effect on non-target plants.
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY
Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
