High yielding conventional Winter Oilseed Rape
Status: EU Common Catalogue
NK Grandia has been registered with a glucosinolate content below 18 micromoles per g seed and as such is fully accepted by the European crushers association (FEDIOL) as a ‘00’ variety
NK Grandia is a very high yielding conventional Winter Oilseed Rape that has delivered an outstanding performance in UK National List trials and across continental Europe. In addition to the variety’s excellent gross output.
NK Grandia is a reliable variety with short and very stiff straw and good resistance to Phoma. Competitively priced, NK Grandia’s very high gross output offers growers exceptional value for money.
Yield performance
Across 2 years of National List trials, NK Grandia has delivered a gross output that was at least 8% higher than Castille, which is an additional 400kg or £160 per hectare at current crushing prices*.
On the current HGCA Recommended List of winter oilseed rape varieties for the East & West region, DK-Cabernet has a gross output 10% higher than Castille, 8% higher than NKBravour and 5% higher than Excalibur**.
The gross output performance is calculated from raw seed yield in conjunction with an adjustment for the oil content.
With bonuses for oil worth in the region of an additional 8% of the base grain price, high oil content varieties should be a key consideration for buffering your gross margin performance of the OSR crop. NK Grandia has an oil content of 46.4% against that of Castille at 44.3%.
Straw characteristics

NK Grandia is very similar in its straw characteristics to Castille. Not only do they have equivalent scores for both lodging and stem stiffness, but any difference in crop height is negligible too. So, for growers seeking the 'low biomass' plant characteristics of Castille but chasing superior yield and oil peformance, then NK Grandia is tailor-made for that job.
Autumn vigour

NK Grandia displays excellent vegetative vigour throughout the season. From comparative observations made against other conventional varieties in trial, it is obvious that NK Grandia is one of the most vigorous conventional varieties commercially available.
Agronomy package
Flowering and maturity
NK Grandia seems to be following the recent trend of being of later flowering and maturity, which provides prolonged photosynthetic activity.
Disease resistance
NK Grandia possesses good resistance to both Stem Canker and Light Leaf Spot. So regardless of the UK region that NK Grandia is grown in, it is able to cope with high disease pressure situations.
Bennett’s Blast

“I’ve been looking for something like NK Grandia for a long time. It has the ‘low biomass’ plant type of Castille but with much better establishment and vigour scores.
The benefits don’t just end there, it has at least 2% more oil content than Castille and delivers a gross output to challenge the top conventional varieties.
It gets better still, enquire about the price of NK Grandia seed and you’ll probably find that alone is sufficient reason to grow this variety regardless of any of its performance or agronomic credentials”.

THE VIGOUR TRIGGER
NK Grandia is treated with CRUISER OSR®
As a combination of fungicides and an insecticide, CRUISER® OSR allows growers the peace of mind that they have given the best possible start to their OSR crop whatever the conditions, wet or dry.
Superior pest and disease control
Broad spectrum, long-lasting pest and disease control.
Increased plant vigour
Increased crop vigour, particularly under stress conditions, leading to better crop establishment.
