INSECTICIDES

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION

A fine granule containing 100 g/kg fosthiazate, an organophosphorus compound for control of potato cyst nematode and a reduction in tuber damage caused by wireworm.

Maximum application rate (broadcast application): 30 kg product/ha
Maximum no. of applications: 1 per crop

Nemathorin 10G is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’, however it is classified as ‘Dangerous to livestock’

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

Nemathorin 10G is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’, however it is classified as ‘Dangerous to livestock’

Risk management is essential. Nemathorin 10G is moderately toxic to mammals and birds if directly consumed, however the risk to these species is low if the product is used as directed. The following risk management practices must be carried out:-
‘Keep all livestock out of treated areas for at least 13 weeks following treatment’.
‘To protect birds/wild mammals the product must be fully incorporated in the soil; ensure that the product is also fully incorporated at the end of the rows’.
‘To protect birds and mammals remove spillages’.
‘The incorporation of the product into soil to a depth of 10-15 centimetres and ridging up of the treated soil must be carried out immediately after application’.

BEES
No risk management is necessary. Nemathorin 10G is of low risk to honey bees.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. Nemathorin 10G poses a low risk to a wide range of insects and arthropods commonly found around treated fields.

AQUATIC LIFE
Nemathorin 10G is classified as ‘Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.

Fosthiazate is of high acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, and low toxicity to fish and algae. Care should also be taken when applying Nemathorin 10G to areas near water courses. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters are not contaminated with the product or the used container.
No risk management is necessary. In practice, the risk to aquatic life is low if Nemathorin 10G is used as recommended, and applied using tractor mounted/drawn placement machinery.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

Fosthiazate has moderate to low persistence in soil depending on the soil type, and is very mobile.
Risk management is essential. ‘To protect groundwater do not apply this or any other product containing fosthiazate more than once every four years’.

EARTHWORMS

Nemathorin 10G is of moderate toxicity to earthworms. In practice, however the risk to earthworms is low. No risk management necessary.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

Nemathorin 10G is of low risk to soil micro-organisms. No risk management is necessary in order to prevent risks to the processes of soil respiration and nitrogen turnover.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
Nemathorin 10G is used as a nematicide and is incorporated into the soil following application. Consequently, it is considered to have negligible activity to plants. If used as recommended, Nemathorin 10G should present no adverse effects on field margin plants.

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
