WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE
KAYAK is not classified as “Harmful to game, wild birds and animals”.
MAMMALS AND BIRDS
No risk management is necessary to protect mammals and birds. KAYAK is of low toxicity to mammals and birds. The risk to wild mammals and birds feeding on treated areas is low due to the limited amount of residues likely to be consumed.
BEES
No risk management is necessary. KAYAK is of low risk to honey bees.
NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. KAYAK poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields, including predatory beetles, predatory mites and parasitic wasps.
AQUATIC LIFE
KAYAK is classified as ‘Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.
KAYAK is highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates and fish, it is also moderately toxic to algae. Although cyprodinil partitions into the sediment of aquatic systems, where it is persistent, the toxicity to sediment dwelling organisms is low. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or the used container.
No risk management is necessary. When used according to the label instructions there will not be sufficient contamination of water to present a risk to aquatic life.
Not categorised under the LERAP scheme.
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER
Cyprodinil is of relatively short persistence in soil under field conditions. Breakdown is largely due to soil micro-organisms, with considerable mineralisation to carbon dioxide. Due to its limited mobility in soil there is a low risk of groundwater contamination.
EARTHWORMS
KAYAK is of moderate toxicity to earthworms, however due to the limited mobility of cyprodinil, the risk to earthworms is low, and so risk management is not necessary.
SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
No risk management necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low.
NON-TARGET PLANTS
When used as recommended, KAYAK is not expected to have adverse effects on non-target plants.
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY
Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and
field sources.
