GENERAL INFORMATION
FOLIO GOLD is a suspension concentrate containing 37.5 g metalaxyl-M and 500 g chlorothalonil per litre. It is a fungicide with systemic and protectant properties for use on outdoor crops for control of foliar diseases on a range of field and vegetable crops.
FOLIO GOLD will give the best results when used in a full and well timed programme as recommended. Treatment of established disease will be less effective.
DISEASES CONTROLLED
Controls White Blister in Brussels sprouts with moderate control in cauliflowers. Moderate control of Downy Mildew in field and broad beans, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. Reduction of
Alternaria and Ringspot in cauliflower and Brussels sprouts.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS AND CAULIFLOWER
FOLIO GOLD may be used on all varieties of Brussels sprouts and cauliflower.
Cauliflower
Moderate control of White Blister (
Albugo candida). Moderate control of Downy Mildew (
Peronospora parasitica). Reduction of
Alternaria spp. and Ringspot (
Mycosphaerella brassicicola).
Brussels Sprout
Control of White Blister (Albugo candida). Moderate control of Downy Mildew (Peronospora parasitica). Reduction of Alternaria spp. and Ringspot (Mycosphaerella brassicicola).
Timing
First applications of FOLIO GOLD should be made when weather conditions are favourable for disease pressure or when disease first occurs in the crop. Applications made once disease is established will be less effective. Where additional applications of FOLIO GOLD are required these should be made at no less than 14 day intervals.
Follow-up treatments with appropriate products may be required should disease continue to develop after the second spray of FOLIO GOLD in these crops.
Dose
2.0 litres FOLIO GOLD per hectare. Not more than a maximum total dose of 4.0 litres FOLIO GOLD per hectare may be made to any crop of cauliflower or Brussels sprouts.
FIELD AND BROAD BEANS
FOLIO GOLD may be used for the moderate control of Downy Mildew (
Peronospora viciae) in all varieties of Broad Beans and Field Beans.
Timing
Apply the recommended rate of FOLIO GOLD as soon as Downy Mildew is discovered in the crop. Further applications may be made at 14 day intervals if the disease is still apparent and conditions are favourable for disease build-up.
Dose
2.0 litres FOLIO GOLD per hectare. Not more than a maximum total dose of 4.0 litres FOLIO GOLD per hectare may be made to any one crop.
MIXING AND SPRAYING
Make sure the sprayer is set to give an even application at the correct volume.
Fill the spray tank with half the required volume of water and commence agitation. Invert and take particular care to shake thoroughly the contents of the bottle and add the required amount of FOLIO GOLD through the filter basket. On emptying the container, RINSE CONTAINER THOROUGHLY by using an integrated pressure rinsing device or manually rinsing three times. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of container safely.
Add the rest of the water and agitate the mixture thoroughly. Always agitate during spraying. Do not leave sprayer standing with spray mixture in it.
Thoroughly wash all spray and measuring equipment with water and a wetting agent immediately after use. Always replace the cap on partly filled packs immediately after measuring out.
Overlapping of spray swathes should be avoided.
Spray Quality
Apply as a MEDIUM quality spray (as defined by the British Crop Protection Council).
Volume
Apply the recommended dose of FOLIO GOLD in a minimum of 200 litres of water per hectare.
COMPANY ADVISORY INFORMATION
Resistance Warning
FOLIO GOLD contains a phenylamide fungicide. FOLIO GOLD should be used on a preventative basis early in the season or during the period of active vegetative growth. It should not be used where curative or eradicative action is required.
To reduce the development of resistant strains of disease FOLIO GOLD should be used as part of resistance management strategy, incorporating other control methods, including fungicides with a different mode of action, used in sequence or mixture.
Resistance development to phenylamide fungicides (i.e. metalaxyl-m) may also occur in other adaptable pathogens like Downy Mildew when these products are used intensively. Where resistant strains occur or develop, the metalaxyl-m component of FOLIO GOLD may not give satisfactory control.
PROTECT FROM FROST.
SHAKE WELL BEFORE USE.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
(a) Operator protection
Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following personal protective equipment:
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS), SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND FACE PROTECTION (FACESHIELD) when handling the concentrate.
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES when handling contaminated surfaces.
However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection.
WASH SPLASHES from skin or eyes immediately.
WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before eating, drinking or smoking and after work.
(b) Environmental protection
To protect aquatic organisms respect an unsprayed buffer zone to surface water bodies in line with LERAP requirements.

DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from ground crop sprayers to fall within 5 m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 1 m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. Direct spray away from water.
This product qualifies for inclusion within the Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) scheme. A LERAP must be carried out in accordance with CRD published guidance before each spraying operation from a ground crop sprayer. The results of the LERAP must be recorded and the records kept available for inspection for three years.
Do not contaminate water with the product or its container. Do not clean application equipment near surface water. Avoid contamination via drains from farmyards and roads.
(c) Consumer protection
DO NOT HARVEST CROPS FOR HUMAN OR ANIMAL CONSUMPTION FOR AT LEAST 14 DAYS AFTER THE LAST APPLICATION.
(d) Storage and disposal
KEEP IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER, tightly closed, in a safe place.
RINSE OUT CONTAINER THOROUGHLY, preferably using an integrated pressure rinsing device or by manually rinsing three times. Add washings to sprayer at time of filling and dispose of safely.
THE (COSHH) CONTROL OF SUBSTANCES HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH REGULATIONS MAY APPLY TO THE USE OF THIS PRODUCT AT WORK
