WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

FOLIO GOLD is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

Although FOLIO GOLD is of moderate toxicity to mammals and birds, if it is used as recommended the risk to wild mammals and birds grazing on treated areas is low. The risk to mammals and birds consuming insects found in treated fields is also low. No risk management is necessary to protect wild birds and mammals, however the following precaution is advised: ‘Do not harvest crops for human or animal consumption for at least 14 days after the last application’.

BEES
FOLIO GOLD is of low risk to bees, therefore no risk management is necessary.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
FOLIO GOLD poses a low risk to the range of non-target insects and arthropods commonly found in treated fields. No risk management is necessary.

AQUATIC LIFE
FOLIO GOLD is classified as ‘Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.

FOLIO GOLD is highly toxic to fish, algae and aquatic invertebrates. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or used container.

Risk management is essential. FOLIO GOLD can be used safely provided care is taken to prevent spray drift from reaching surface waters. The following risk management practices must be carried out in order to ensure that there is adequate protection for aquatic species.

‘Do not allow direct spray from ground crop sprayers to fall within 5m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 1m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. Direct spray away from water.’

LERAP Category B. Buffer zones may be reduced.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

Chlorothalonil has low persistence in soil, it has low mobility and can be immobile in some soil conditions. Metalaxyl-M has moderate persistence in soils, it’s mobility can range from low for clay soils to high for sandy soils. However, in practice when FOLIO GOLD is used according to the approved label instructions, the risk of groundwater contamination is low.

EARTHWORMS

Both chlorothalonil and metalaxyl-M are of moderate toxicity to earthworms. No risk management is necessary, as the risk to earthworms is low.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

FOLIO GOLD is unlikely to have any long-term effect on soil microbial activity. Therefore the risk is considered to be low.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
No effects on non-target plants are expected when FOLIO GOLD is used as directed.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
