Disease resistance
Denman has a good disease resistance profile, with good yellow rust resistance, and high untreated yields. Denman is resistant to OWBM and WSBMV.

Fungicide use
Always consult your agronomist and adapt programmes to local conditions.

Getting the fungicide agronomy right is crucial to establishing a healthy crop and maintaining canopy during yield formation. Only two strobilurins can be applied in any one season. Knowing the end use for your crop and understanding your local environmental conditions will aid the decision of when to apply a strobilurin based
product.

T0 – Only needed in extremely high pressure years or on early autumn-sown crops. Using Cheroke will provide very good control against brown rust. The use of a protectant mildewicide may be needed if powdery mildew is at significant levels.

T1 – T1 timing is key for protecting leaf 3 (up to 10% of the yield in wheat comes from leaf 3). A triazole and chlorothalonil mix will control Septoria tritici and protect against the development of other foliar diseases.

T2 – This is the most important fungicide timing as control of diseases on the flag leaf give considerable yield advantages (up to 65% of yield comes from the top 2 leaves). Strobilurins offer protection against late-season rust infections and increase yield through their ‘greening effect’. The addition of a triazole and or BRAVO is crucial in eradicating and preventing the infection of Septoria tritici.

T3 – ‘Ear spray’ – targeting ear diseases helps prevent the degradation of grain quality. The ear spray also gives additional control of disease on the top two leaves.

CORE PROGRAMME
T0 – CHEROKEE 0.75-1.0 lt/ha (only if risk of brown rust is high)
T1 – CHEROKEE 1.5 lt/ha + eyespot active fungicide if there is a risk OR AMISTAR OPTI 1.25 lt/ha + triazole (three quarter rate)
T2 – SEGURIS 0.75-1.0 lt/ha
T3 – AMISTAR OPTI 0.75 lt/ha + Fusarium-active triazole

Note: Amistar Opti is a co-formulation containing azoxystrobin and chlorothalonil (BRAVO).
