DIRECTIONS FOR USE

IMPORTANT: This information is approved as part of the Product Label. All instructions within this section must be carefully read in order to obtain safe and successful use of this product.

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENT
CRUISER OSR contains thiamethoxam, a neo-nicotinoid insecticide. There are no known cases of resistance to thiamethoxam or to other neo-nicotinoid insecticides in the UK to date for any of the pests listed on this label. However, the possible development of resistance cannot be excluded or predicted and control may be reduced if strains of pest resistant to thiamethoxam or other neo-nicotinoids develop.

Use of this product should form part of a resistance management strategy. Where a neonicotinoid seed treatment has been used, the first subsequent foliar spray should be made with a product containing a different active ingredient and from a different mode of action class. Consult the IRAG website for further information on a particular management strategy for the targets in question.

CRUISER OSR contains metalaxyl-M, a phenylamide fungicide. Due to the risk of resistance developing to phenylamides in downy mildew, foliar sprays containing a phenylamide fungicide such as metalaxyl-M must not be applied to a crop grown from seed treated with CRUISER OSR.

For advice on resistance management refer to the latest Insecticide Resistance Action Group (IRAG) and Fungicide Resistance Action Group (FRAG) guidelines.

Since the occurrence of resistance cannot be forecast, neither Syngenta Crop Protection UK Limited nor its distributors can accept responsibility for any loss or damage to crops caused by the failure of CRUISER OSR to control resistant strains.

SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITY
CRUISER OSR is a broad spectrum seed treatment providing fungicidal and insecticidal activity
for use on oilseed rape, fodder rape and mustard. CRUISER OSR is recommended for the
reduction of damage associated with early attacks by Flea Beetles (Phyllotreta and Psylliodes
spp.) and Cabbage Stem Flea Beetle (Psylliodes chrysocephala); these are common pests
affecting crops during crop establishment. Follow-up spray treatments may be required if flea
beetle activity is heavy and prolonged.
CRUISER OSR will provide early season control of Peach-potato aphid (Myzus persicae), a vector
of turnip yellows virus (TuYV). Early season control of these aphids with CRUISER OSR will
reduce the spread of TuYV but where Peach-potato aphid attack is prolonged suitable foliar
sprays may also be required.
The fungicidal components in CRUISER OSR provide control of downy mildew (Peronospora
parasitica) plus seed-borne Phoma lingham. Also provides moderate control of seed-borne
Alternaria spp. and a reduction in soil-borne damping off disease (Pythium spp.).

Crop specific information

Crops
For use on all varieties of oilseed rape, fodder rape and mustard

Timing
Before drilling

Rate of use
Apply CRUISER OSR at a rate of 1.5 litres per 100 kg seed

Application

Agitate container thoroughly before use e.g. by rolling containers on a level floor bearing in mind the following warning. Containers of greater than 20 litres capacity should be handled only with mechanical assistance.

CRUISER OSR should be applied undiluted.
CRUISER OSR should be applied directly to the seed using conventional seed treatment equipment. Continuous flow treaters should be calibrated using CRUISER OSR before use.

Seed Quality
Do not use on cracked or damaged seed. Use only good quality seed tested for viability using a suitable germination test before treatment.

Storage of Treated Seed
Seed should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated building. Ideally, treated seed should be used in the season of treatment. It is not recommended to store CRUISER OSR treated seed for longer than 18 months.

Seedbed Preparation and Drilling
Check drill calibration before drilling for each batch of seed to ensure an accurate drilling rate.

Prepare a firm, even seedbed. Seed treated with CRUISER OSR must not be broadcast. CRUISER OSR is not known to have any adverse effect on seed germination or crop emergence but poor seed quality or seedbed conditions (waterlogged, capped, dry, fluffy or cloddy seedbeds) may result in delayed emergence and/or poor establishment. Similarly, avoid deep or shallow drilling which can adversely affect crop establishment and may reduce the level of pest control.

Seed spillages
In case of seed spillage, clean up as much as possible into the related seed sack and re-use the clean seed. Bury or remove the remainder completely.

After use
Dispose of product concentrate, empty containers and contaminated seed bags according to the “Code of Practice for the Safe Use Of Pesticides on Farms and Holdings” available from HMSO. Do not re-use containers for any purpose.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
(a) Operator protection
Engineering control of operator exposure must be used where reasonably practicable in addition to the following Personal Protective Equipment:
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS) AND SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES when handling the concentrate, contaminated surfaces or treated seed.
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS) when bagging treated seed.
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS), SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND SUITABLE RESPIRATORY PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (disposable filtering facepiece respirator to at least EN 149 FFP2 or equivalent) when cleaning equipment.
However, engineering controls may replace personal protective equipment if a COSHH assessment shows they provide an equal or higher standard of protection.
WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN after cleaning and re-calibrating equipment.
WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after work.

(b) Environmental protection
Do not contaminate water with the product or its container. Do not clean application equipment near surface water. Avoid contamination via drains from farmyards and roads.
DANGEROUS TO BIRDS, GAME AND OTHER WILDLIFE. Treated seed should not be left on the soil surface. Bury or remove spillages.
TREATED SEED MUST NOT BE BROADCAST.

(c) Consumer protection
Do not re-use sacks or containers that have been used for treated seed for food or feed.
Do not use treated seed for food or feed.

(d) Safety precautions for treated seed
WEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (COVERALLS) AND SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES when handling treated seed.
DO NOT HANDLE seed unnecessarily.
DO NOT USE TREATED SEED as food or feed.
DO NOT RE-USE SACKS OR CONTAINERS THAT HAVE BEEN USED FOR TREATED SEED for food or feed.
KEEP TREATED SEED SECURE from people, domestic stock/pets and wildlife at all times during storage and use.
WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after work.
DANGEROUS TO BIRDS, GAME AND OTHER WILDLIFE. Treated seed should not be left on the soil surface. Bury or remove spillages.
DO NOT APPLY TREATED SEED FROM THE AIR.
Treated seed must be drilled.

(e) Storage and disposal
For returnable containers
KEEP IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER, tightly closed in a safe place.
DO NOT RINSE OUT CONTAINER.
RETURN EMPTY CONTAINER TO SUPPLIER.
DO NOT RE-USE CONTAINER FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE.
OPEN THE CONTAINER ONLY AS DIRECTED.
LABEL TREATED SEED with the appropriate precautions using printed sacks, labels or bag tags.
Do not use treated seed for food or feed.

For non-returnable containers
KEEP IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER tightly closed in a safe place.
DO NOT RE-USE CONTAINER for any purpose.
WASH OUT CONTAINER THOROUGHLY and dispose of safely.
LABEL TREATED SEED with the appropriate precautions using printed sacks, labels or bag tags.
