WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

BRAVO 500 is not classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals ’

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

No risk management is necessary to protect mammals and birds. BRAVO 500 is of low toxicity to mammals and birds. Therefore it will pose a low risk to grazing mammals e.g. rabbits, hares and deer that may consume recently treated weeds or other mammals living in or around treated fields. The risk to mammals such as shrews consuming earthworms in fields treated with BRAVO 500 is low.

There will also be a low risk of adverse effects on birds nesting in or around treated fields or feeding on earthworms or insects in treated areas.

BEES
BRAVO 500 is of low risk to bees, therefore no risk management is necessary

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. BRAVO 500 poses a low risk to the range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields.

AQUATIC LIFE
BRAVO 500 is classified as ’Very toxic to the aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.

BRAVO 500 is highly toxic to fish, algae and aquatic invertebrates. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or used container.

Risk management is essential. BRAVO 500 can be used safely provided care is taken to prevent spray drift reaching surface waters. The following risk management practices must be carried out in order to ensure that there is adequate protection for aquatic species.

‘Do not allow direct spray from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody, unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 1m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. Do not allow direct spray from hand held sprayers to fall within 1m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody. Aim spray away from water’.

‘Do not allow direct spray from broadcast air-assisted sprayers to fall within 18m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing water body unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone or within 5m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. Aim spray away from water.’

‘Do not spray from the air within 250m horizontal distance of surface waters or ditches’.

LERAP Category B. Buffer zones may be reduced (see LERAP Guidelines).

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

Chlorothalonil has low persistence in soil, it has low mobility and can be immobile in some soil conditions. Therefore, if BRAVO 500 is used as recommended there is a low risk of groundwater contamination.

EARTHWORMS

Chlorothalonil is of moderate toxicity to earthworms, however in practice, the risk to earthworms is low. No risk management necessary.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

BRAVO 500 is unlikely to have any long-term effect on soil microbial activity. The risk is therefore considered to be low.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
No effects on non-target plants are expected when BRAVO 500 is used as recommended.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
