WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

AUSTRAL PLUS is classified as ‘Harmful to game, wild birds and animals’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

Risk management is essential. AUSTRAL PLUS is of high toxicity to mammals and of moderate toxicity to birds, if directly consumed. Bury or remove spillages of treated seed immediately to avoid consumption. Care must be taken to keep treated seed secure from domestic stock/pets and wildlife at all times during storage and use to avoid accidental consumption.

BEES
No risk management is necessary as risk of exposure to bees from seed treatment is low.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management is necessary. AUSTRAL PLUS poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields.

AQUATIC LIFE
AUSTRAL PLUS is ’Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.

AUSTRAL PLUS is extremely toxic to fish and aquatic invertebrates. Care should be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or with the used container.

No risk management is necessary. When used according to the label instructions, the risk to aquatic life is low.

Not categorised under the LERAP scheme.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

AUSTRAL PLUS has moderate persistence in the soil. Both fludioxonil and tefluthrin are strongly bound to the soil and are not considered to be mobile. Use of AUSTRAL PLUS according to the label instruction presents a low risk to groundwater.

EARTHWORMS

AUSTRAL PLUS is of high toxicity to earthworms, however field studies demonstrate that tefluthrin is not mobile and so risk management is not necessary. In practice, the risk to earthworms is low.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

No risk management is necessary. No effect on soil microbial processes were found and so the risk is considered to be low.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
AUSTRAL PLUS is applied as a seed treatment and so the impact on non-target plants is expected to be minimal.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY

Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
