INSECTICIDES

ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION

A 500 g/kg WDG formulation containing pirimicarb, a carbamate insecticide for use on apple, cherry, cabbage, cauliflower, calabrese, broccoli, Brussels sprout, kale, Chinese cabbage, collard, turnip, swede, pear, oilseed rape, wheat, durum wheat, barley, oats, rye, triticale, maize, sweetcorn, blackcurrant, redcurrant, gooseberry, raspberry, carrot, parsnip, sugar beet, potato, field bean, dwarf French bean, broad bean, runner bean, pea, cucumber*, tomato*, pepper*, strawberry, lettuce (protected and outdoor), ornamental plant production* (protected and outdoors), forest nurseries*.

Maximum application rate: crop dependent.

* Maximum concentration must not exceed 500g product/1000 litres water.

WILDLIFE, MAMMALS AND BIRDS
WILDLIFE

APHOX is classified as ‘Harmful to Livestock’.

MAMMALS AND BIRDS

APHOX is moderately toxic to mammals and highly toxic to birds. Risk management is essential.
Keep all livestock out of treated areas for at least 7 days. Bury or remove spillages.

BEES
No risk management is necessary. APHOX is of low risk to bees.

NON-TARGET INSECTS AND OTHER ARTHROPODS
No risk management necessary. APHOX poses a low risk to a range of arthropod species commonly found in and around treated fields.

AQUATIC LIFE
APHOX is classified as ‘Very toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’.

APHOX is moderately toxic to fish and algae, but is highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Care must be taken to ensure that surface waters or ditches are not contaminated with the product or used container.

No risk management is necessary.
APHOX is used as a horticultural and agricultural insecticide. In practice there will not be sufficient contamination of water to present a risk to aquatic life. APHOX is not categorised under the LERAP scheme.

SOIL AND GROUNDWATER, EARTHWORMS AND SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS
SOIL AND GROUNDWATER

Pirimicarb is impersistent in soil, and is moderately mobile. Therefore, the risk of ground water contamination is low.

EARTHWORMS

APHOX is of moderate toxicity to earthworms. Field studies have shown that there is a low risk to earthworm populations if used as directed. No risk management necessary.

SOIL MICRO-ORGANISMS

APHOX does not have any effect on soil microbial processes at the approved use rate, so the risk is considered to be low. No risk management necessary.

NON-TARGET PLANTS
When used as directed, APHOX is not expected to have adverse effects on non-target plants.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL: USE PESTICIDES SAFELY
Care must be taken to minimise the risk of surface water contamination from farmyard and field sources.
