Tom's Blog

Welcome to my Syngenta website Application Blog

My experience from running the Syngenta Application Clubs is that some of the best ideas for improving spraying come out of fascinating - and often heated - conversations between sprayer operators. The answer to virtually all the problems encountered can be solved by the experiences of someone else, who has faced the same issue, but found a practical solution.

In my Application Blog I’ll be posting regular topical tips and ideas that I pick up from talking to sprayer operators every day, and in the research we are undertaking to improve farm sprayer application.

I am going to be helped by Andrew Myatt, winner of the 2009 Syngenta Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year. Andrew will be adding his experiences encountered during spraying nearly 10,000 hectares a year at Stowell Park Estate near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, including wheat, barley, oilseed rape and beans.

We also want to hear back from you. Let us know what you think of our ideas, maybe you know a better way of achieving the required result. To get involved CLICK HERE to send me an email.

Tom Robinson

Syngenta Application Specialist

Tom has pioneered many of the innovative application ideas instigated by the company over the years, including adjusting water volumes to optimise spray retention and work rates, along with nozzle developments to improve accuracy and performance of many spray applications. He is responsible for both the scientific research and testing of new application ideas, as well as the implementing the ideas on farm in practice. Tom initiated the Syngenta Application Clubs and the Farm Sprayer Operator of the Year competition, which have been instrumental in raising the standard of farm spraying and recognising the skills of the operators involved.
