Vegetable applications

Carrots

Carrot crops are easy to cover when they are small however it is very difficult to achieve good coverage of the crown using conventional technology, especially when the canopy is large.

Water volume 200l/ha increasing to 300l/ha as crop grows for increased penetration to the crown.
Nozzle choice Vertical flat fan 65 degrees 06 for lower water volumes and 08 for higher. Avoid bubble jets if penetration to the crown is required.
Application speed 5-16kph depending on weather and travelling conditions. Water volume can also be manipulated through forward speed as appropriate for the canopy size.

Brussels sprouts

Recommendations vary depending on the size of the crop at the time of application. Early herbicides can be applied using conventional technology however the later fungicide applications can have their effect maximised on the buttons by the specific recommendations below.

Water volume Small: 100-200l/ha
Full canopy: 300-500l/ha
Nozzle choice Small: Amistar nozzle (size depending on volume but 025 would be best for 100l/ha at 12kph, 3bar)
Full Canopy: Twin Cap Angled sprays are recommended with a combination of a conventional nozzle at the front and an air induction nozzle such as the Amistar at the rear
Application speed 5-12kph depending on water volume and application conditions

Cabbages

Field trials have shown that tailored application advice will improve efficacy of products at different timings. For Cabbages this is defined as when the crop are small and when they are hearted.

Water volume Small: 100-200l/ha
Hearted: 300-800l/ha
Nozzle choice Small: Amistar nozzles (choose appropriate size for desired output and forward speed)
Hearted: 65 degree Syngenta Vegetable Nozzle, use the 06 or the 08 depending on the output and forward speed required
Application speed 5-12kph depending on water volume and application conditions

Winter and Spring Field Beans

Peas and beans are often referred to in the same breath as they are the most common legume break crop. However from an application view point the crops are very different. Bean canopies are very open compared to peas so bigger drops are able to penetrate.

Water volume 100l/ha
Nozzle choice Amistar nozzle or flat fan
Application speed Max 12kph

Peas

Peas and beans are often referred to in the same breath as they are the most common legume break crop. However from an application view point the crops are very different. Pea canopies are very dense compared to beans so smaller drops are more appropriate to blow under the top leaves.

Water volume 200l/ha
Nozzle choice Twin caps or the Syngenta potato nozzle
Application speed Max 12kph

Please note that for any pre emergence applications (usually herbicide, irrespective of crop) consider using the angled Hawk nozzles alternating down the boom forward and backwards to increase coverage, especially important in cloddy seedbeds.
