Oilseed rape applications

Autumn applications

For grass weed control in oilseed rape, operators face the extra problem of crop shading emerging target seedlings – the best rates of control are achieved by early applications at the one to two leaf stage. Finer droplets are required to wet shinny grass leaves and generate sideways movement to get under leaves.

Water volume 100-200 l/ha
Nozzle choice For pre and post emergence applications and early volunteer control the Defy nozzle forward and back is recommended. The Hawk nozzle will also work well.
Application speed 12 km/h is optimum
Other comments Alternating the angled Hawk nozzles down the boom reduces drift and increases coverage, especially in cloddy seed beds, keep pressure low to reduce drift

Spring applications

If targeting the petals/pods use the Hawk nozzle. For greater distribution down the plant use the Amistar nozzle.

Water volume 100 l/ha
Nozzle choice Amistar or Hawk
Application speed 12 km/h
Other comments The angled Hawk nozzles leave most spray in the top third of the canopy, if this is the target then this is the nozzle. For desiccation the Amistar nozzle is better suited to target all parts of the canopy.
